Rafael Nadal looked hampered by his injured knees in an unsuccessful transition to grass Thursday and will decide Friday whether he is fit enough to defend his Wimbledon title. Nadal played without tape on his sore knees but frequently looked a step slow in losing 6-4, 6-3 to Lleyton Hewitt in an exhibition match at the Hurlingham Club in London. It was Nadal's first match after losing to Robin Soderling in the fourth round of the French Open. He pulled out of last week's grass-court tournament at Queen's Club to rest his knees. However, Nadal looked increasingly frustrated against the hard-serving Hewitt as he repeatedly failed to get to balls he would normally reach and struggled with unforced backhand errors. Razzano ousts Radwanska In England, Virginie Razzano upset defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Eastbourne Championships. Marion Bartoli defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Razzano. Sixth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki swept past Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-2, the only remaining seed in the women's draw. Wozniacki will face Aleksandra Wozniak, who ousted Vera Dushevina 6-1, 6-0. In the men's draw, fourth-seeded Fabrice Santoro advanced when Ivan Ljubicic retired with a left ankle injury 6-3, 4-2. Santoro now plays qualifier Frank Dancevic, who outlasted Leonardo Mayer 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. The second semifinal will be between second-seeded Dmitry Tursunov and eighth-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Dmitry Tursunov of Russia put out Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 7-6, 6-4 while Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Ferrer beaten in quarters In the Netherlands, Ivan Navarro beat defending champion David Ferrer 6-4, 6-2 Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Ordina Open grass court tournament. Navarro next plays Dutchman Raemon Sluiter, who dispatched Dudi Sela of Israel 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance. Qualifier Benjamin Becker advanced edging Michael Llodra 7-6 (6), 7-5. Becker will play fourth-seeded Rainer Schuettler in an all-German semifinal. Schuettler overpowered seventh-seeded Jeremy Chardy of France 7-6 (7), 3-6, 7-6 (11). In the women's event, top-seeded Dinara Safina defeated No.6 Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to set up a semifinal clash with Los Angeles-born Tamarine Tanasugarn. Tanasugarn of Thailand dismissed third-seeded Flavia Pennetta 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance. Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium set up a semifinal against Francesca Schiavone.
