The Pakistani government is working hard to put the country's economy back on track and the budget announced recently will equally benefit poor segments of society and businessmen, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, member of the National Assembly and a son of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, said here on Tuesday. The prime minister's son, who is here to perform Umrah along with other members of his family, was addressing the Pakistani community here at a function organized in his honor. Syed A. Qadir Gilani said the Pakistan People's Party and its allies in the government are exerting every effort to root out poverty, illiteracy, sickness and hunger from the country. He urged overseas Pakistanis to support their country by remitting their hard earned money through proper and legal channels and also to invest in the country's developmental schemes. Urging Saudi businessmen to invest in Pakistan, Qadir assured them of several government measures to protect their investments and guarantee increased dividends. Answering a question on the situation in Swat, Qadir said Pakistan was committed to fighting terrorism and extremism. He sought cooperation from overseas Pakistanis for the government's steps to restore law and order in Swat valley. Pakistan, he said, is a peaceful country and wants to have congenial relations with all of its neighbors. He added that Pakistan wants to resolve all contentious issues with its neighbors through dialogue and peaceful means. Qadir said the government was committed to continue the unfinished mission of former prime ministers Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto of strengthening Pakistan and ensuring equal rights to every Pakistani.
