More than 40 painters and architects from King Abdulaziz University and Umm Al-Qurra University are taking part in a fine arts “Hijazi Architecture” workshop being organized by Jeddah's Mayoralty in the open in the city's downtown historic area. The workshop aims to inspire painters and architects to come up with ideas to decorate the streets of the coastal city. Dr. Ahsraf Al-Turki, Director General of the General Administration for Environmental Designs and Areas, said the historic area in Balad is a treasure house of Hijazi architecture accumulated throughout the ages. He said the workshop offers a unique opportunity to the painters and architects to become familiar with the major features and characteristics of the rich Hijazi architecture. He pointed out that the artists and architects would translate their inspirations into works of art which will adorn the city's streets.
