Under the patronage of Prince Misha'l Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Jeddah, Okaz Organization for Press and Publication held a function at the weekend honoring the winners of the Holy Qur'an memorization contest which it had sponsored. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Hazmi, Director of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs' branch in Jeddah, highlighted the attention given by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, to the memorizers of the Holy Qur'an and the efforts of Prince Misha'l in the service of society. He said the organization of the function by Okaz reflects its interaction with society and its efforts in disseminating the values of the Holy Qur'an and genuine Islamic principles as well. Addressing the gathering on behalf of Waleed Kattan, the Organization's Director General, Abdul Aziz Bin Abass Al-Sehli, Assistant Director General for Marketing, said the contest comes in line with the great care the country's leadership gives to the Book of Allah and those who memorize it. This care, he said, is best manifested in the international, regional and local Holy Qur'an competitions the government organizes within and outside the Kingdom to encourage the younger generation in Islamic countries to memorize and recite the Holy Qur'an. Abdul Aziz Hanfi, Chairman of the Charitable Society for the Memorization of the Holy Qur'an in Jeddah, lauded the role being played by Okaz in the service and well-being of society. The panel of judges listened to samples of the recitation of the Holy Qur'an by the contestants and at the end of the function, Okaz honored 21 of the contestants who occupied the first position in the different segments of the contest.
