Medical experts are to meet later this week to decide whether to give the go-ahead for Moroccan conjoined twins Saeeda and Aziza to be surgically separated. The twins have been undergoing tests at King Abdul Aziz National Guard Medical City in Riyadh, which according to Minister of Health Abdullah Al-Rabeah who leads the Medical City surgical team, revealed that the twins shared a liver, pancreas, liver ducts, parts of the appendices, and the upper small intestine. Al-Rabeah described a separation through surgery as “possible”, but added that “more tests need to be conducted on the gall bladder ducts, pancreas and the heart, to determine the chances of success”. The operation, should it be given the go-ahead, would probably last around 15 hours, he added. Al-Rabeah said the conjoined twins were in good health and that all other factors such as weight were at suitable levels for the procedure.
