A Saudi national has revealed his anger at discovering that his missing cousin who suffers from mental illness had been deported to Yemen after he was mistaken for being an illegal resident. Mohammed Shoukani also noted that it was not the first time it had happened. Mohammed said his ten-day search at hospitals and police stations, ended with the discovery that his 42-year-old cousin Ahmed had been taken in by the Deportation Department and deported to Yemen when Saudi acquaintances reported seeing Ahmed in the border town of Haradh. Mohammed has absolved the police of any responsibility but would like to find out how his cousin was picked up and deported for a second time. “The police here know Ahmed. They know he is a Saudi national and that he has psychological problems,” said Mohammed. “Ahmad used to go the psychiatric hospital in Jizan on foot, and this is the second time he has been deported, which may be due to the fact that he is difficult to communicate with,” Mohammed said. “He just happens to be in an area where security is tight.”
