A foreign worker in Al-Leith has been sentenced to two months' prison and 70 lashes for practicing magic. The man will be deported upon completion of his sentence. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hai'a) acted on information from a member of the public and caught the resident in the act of practicing his arts at his shop in the town of Bubu' Al-Ain. The Hai'a also arrested another man accused of sorcery who was officially working in the region as a butcher. The Indian national was arrested at his abattoir where where the Hai'a reportedly found “eggs, ropes and a stick used for acts of magic”.
