The Holocaust memorial in Buchenwald, Germany is a very important part of human history. It is supposed to remind us about what happened to innocent Jews and others who were forced by Nazis into one of the largest concentration camps of the 20th century. People there were worked to death, starved, some executed and some died while being transported after being freed from the camp. I plan to visit the memorial one day. Only inconsiderate and unjust people deny it. However, a memorial is one thing and human behavior is another. If the memorial is supposed to remind us of our duties to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again, then we can say it has failed, as the tragedy is taking place again. Ironically enough, this time the atrocity is being committed by the children of the victims of Buchenwald and other concentration camps. It is happening again in Gaza, not perpetrated by Nazis, but by Jews. Gaza had been turned into the largest concentration camp of the 21st century. Unfortunately, those who talk about the Holocaust and the memorials are helping the aggressor. Believe me there can be nothing worse than justifying a crime against humanity by means of historical events. The West has gone a step ahead from justifying the crime to contributing in its creation and occurrence. It is happening again in Gaza. It is happening again in Darfur. It is happening again in different parts of the world. So where is the commitment of the West? – SG Dr. Alquaiz is consultant physician at King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Riyadh __
