The Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) is scheduled to launch today Saturday a three-month offer in which it will double the speed of its Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) service that will be made available to customers with Internet speeds from 64 Kb/s up to 2.5 Gb/s. The launch comes in response to private and government sector customer needs for a fast and secure network, notably larger organizations whose main foundation for investment is information. The network is compatible with all communication technologies available in the Kingdom such as Fiber Optics, WiMax and VSAT, and customers will be able to benefit from other applications like video conferencing and prioritizing data processing according to application importance and type. STC meanwhile took part in the Telecoms Leaders Summit in Abu Dhabi between May 25 and 27 on the sidelines of the Middle East Communications Exhibition and Conference (MECOM 09), with company vice president Saad Bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani reviewing STC's provision of broadband services and the popularity of its Aafaq service in the Kingdom. STC is the only company to provide all internationally-defined broadband services in the Saudi market, among them Fiber Optic and DSL connections, and Al-Qahtani said that STC had achieved the highest growth ratio with one million subscriptions to the Aafaq DSL service by the end of 2008.
