In the past decade, the video gaming industry has emerged like never before, fascinating and attracting the masses by introducing exciting innovations and entertaining game play to the world. Today, video game technology is extremely advanced with online gaming, touch controls, multi-tasking options, as well as motion sensing technology to name a few. MeMega, however, delivers that and much more. The showroom of MeMega - located on the main front of La Terra Mall in Jeddah, snuggled beside a service and pick up center, was inaugurated last Wednesday in an opening that both witnessed an impressive attendance and generated much interest. “The opening of MeMega's outlet comes as a move to strengthen our position in the market and provide our services, so we can become a major player in the Information Technology sector in the region and Saudi Arabia in particular,” said Amr Tahir, the founder of MeMega and President of the BTAT Group. “We hope that such an opening of MeMega will promote its distinguished electronic and computer services both online and within the showroom.” The range of products offered at MeMega are endless, with particular emphasis placed on online shopping setting the outlet apart from its competitors. “We have signed up with a lot of popular brands in the electronics and computer industry and the line of products that we have on offer are unique and exclusively available at the outlet,” stated Tahir. Since the brand is the first of its kind in Jeddah he claimed to be satisfied with the response. “It is planned that six months from now another outlet will be opened in Riyadh. We hope to cover the GCC by the end of this year and by the end of 2010, all of the Middle East.” With its splendid, futuristic architectural design, the showroom reflects the primary objective of MeMega - ‘to serve the consumer market with the most innovative, unique products across six main categories: Hardware, Software, Communication & Networking, Games, PDA & Mobility, and Gadgets.' Though a wide range of quirky new products were on display, the biggest highlight was the Gravitonus Game Chair, an ergonomic workstation that can be configured around the user. “This is a first of its kind and will be available exclusively through MeMega,” said Alex Kosik, the inventor of the game chair. With a 5.1 surround sound system (meaning that the system offers a full range of channels), the music, cinema, gaming action and excitement envelops the user and provides a truly surreal experience. Also notable was the Block Rocker which is a perfect portable speaker system for traveling musicians, entertainers and event coordinators. The product's long-lasting rechargeable battery, sturdy casing and portable design makes its users feel its presence and not just hear it. Another product on display touted as a revolution in home exploration and telepresence was the ROVIO - a WiFi enabled robotic webcam that easily moves in any direction and can be controlled by a remote. This compact critter allows you to view and interact with other ROVIOs through streaming video and audio from its built-in camera. MeMega has been involved in some intensive promotion of the outlet, with posters and banners appearing in Jeddah for the past few weeks. The showroom manager Andrew Bright spoke to the Saudi Gazette and remarked that the promotional campaigns generated the desired response. “It is nice to see so many excited people coming to the retail outlet because it is one of its kind. There has been a genuine interest, especially among the gaming enthusiasts,” he said. Memega is first and foremost geared towards gamers. It offers a wide selection of next generation gaming technologies such as gaming chairs, interactive gaming vests, and neural controllers, in addition to a wide selection of games and unique accessories for the popular gaming consoles (i.e. PS3, Wii, Xbox 360). “We want to cater to the demands and needs of the people...because a lot of these products you cannot buy in Saudi Arabia, let alone Jeddah,” Bright elaborated. In addition to being a haven for gamers, MeMega also provides many other unique products of reputed brands like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Nintendo, and Sony that are being introduced for the first time in Saudi Arabia. These were placed side by side with more obscure products like Alienware, Flybook, Hardcore Computers, Netgear, Rugged Notebooks, Barracuda Networks, Gear4, myvu, Blue Ant, and Nextar. Bright was also very positive about MeMega's Web site, which acts as an extension of the outlet. “We want to be able to offer a highly integrated shopping experience for our customers. There is a huge potential for this tech-savvy market and the products and services are in demand. We will be able to provide them with products all under one roof and domain,” he explained. According to him, the website will be updated as required and e-shopping will be made much simpler as the Web site lets users navigate to their favorite items.“The Web site is crucial because the showroom itself is limited in terms of the items we can display here. In the showroom we display the most exciting or ones that we think are most popular, and we want to be able to say - if you want, it we've got it,” he concluded. Whether they have it or not, is up to customers to decide. The MeMega Web site can be reached at www.memega.com.
