A UN team headed by a respected South African judge has begun its probe into possible war crimes by Israel and Hamas militants during three weeks of fighting in the territory. The team entered Gaza via Egypt Monday without having secured Israeli cooperation. Israel has said it believes the investigation will not be objective. It says the UN agency sponsoring it has an anti-Israel bias. The probe is headed by Richard Goldstone, a veteran war crimes prosecutor. Goldstone, who is Jewish and has ties to Israel, has said he wants to investigate both sides. Goldstone said he'll spend a week in the area and plans to submit his report in August. He said he'll look at the Gaza war and at possible human rights violations by Gaza's Hamas rulers.
