A fire in the region of Doumat Al-Jandal to the south of Sakaka caused significant damage to some 600 palm trees as well as to two cars and several rest houses on Sunday. The rapid spread of the fire, which took hold of four districts in the region due to high winds, was attributed to numerous violations at farms and neglected palm trees which served as highly inflammable kindling, according to firefighters. A number of recent fires in the area have caused the concern of authorities. No cause for the latest blaze has yet been established.
