British sprinter Dwain Chambers won the 100 meters at the Papaflessia athletics meet here on Saturday in a season's European best of 10.06 seconds. Chambers, 31, who has served a two-year suspension from major meetings after testing positive for the designer steroid THG, won the European Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash this past winter. Second in the race at the Papaflessia was fellow Briton James Dasaolu in 10.25 followed by American Philippe DeRosier in 10.31. Chambers told a pre-meet press conference that he would continue to participate in smaller meets in order to prepare for the World Athletics Championships in August in Berlin. “This is my first outdoor meet of the season. I want to participate in many meets with the target being Berlin, but before that the British trials in July,” he said. Kasyanov, Yosypenko in front In Austria, Oleksiy Kasyanov and Lyudmyla Yosypenko gave Ukraine a double lead Saturday after the opening day of the Hypo Meeting. Kasyanaov gained 4,461 points from the first five disciplines of the men's decathlon to lead Trey Hardee of the United States by 70 points. Yosypenko had personal-best results in three of the day's four events - 200 meters, high jump and shot put - to lead the women's heptathlon with 3,840 points. Michael Schrader of Germany won the men's long jump with an 8.05-meter effort and was third, 120 points behind Kasyanov. World record-holder Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic, who has won the Hypo Meeting five times, was just fifth after a disappointing result of 1.94 meters in the high jump. He trails Kasyanov by 204 points. Yosypenko led fellow Ukrainians Hanna Melnychenko and Olympic champion Nataliya Dobrynska by 67 and 89 points respectively. The meet ends Sunday.
