Hammad Yusuf, a student of the International Indian School, Jeddah (IISJ) ranked first in the Kingdom with 95.4 percent in the 10th Grade Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results declared on Friday.
Andrea Fernandes, a girl student from the International Indian School, Jubail (IISJub) secured second position with 95 percent while Khalidha Noordeen and Shalini Shashi Kumar Shankar of IISR shared third position with 94.8 percent.
There are around 16 schools in the Kingdom affiliated to the CBSE board including seven international Indian community schools managed by parents either elected or nominated by the Indian Embassy or its Consulate General in Jeddah.
The 10th Grade results available from four international Indian community schools based in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Jubail indicate that a total of 2,046 students sat from these schools for the 10th Grade examination conducted by CBSE in March 2008-09.
Of the 667 students fielded by IISJ, 640 passed and 27 were compartment while 642 students appeared and all passed from IISD including eight compartment. The IISR fielded 616 students with 614 passed, 20 compartment and two failures. The Jubail school fielded 121, passed 115, six compartment with no failures.
In the overall pass percentage, the IISJ, IISD and IISJub claimed to have 100 percent results despite having students placed in compartment while the IISR with its two failures has a 99.7 pass percentage.
One principal, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the students passed in compartment should not be included in the overall pass percentage. The students who pass in all subjects and those who are placed in compartment because they failed in one or two subjects should not be placed in the pass category, he said.
The school toppers from IISJ include Shine Ali (2nd position with 94.2 percent) and Blessy George with 94 percent ranked third.
The top scoring students from IISD include Sreelakshmi Muraleedharan (94.2 percent), Muraleedharan Vishnu Prasad and Sheryl Nedumkallel Sani shared second position with 93.8 percent and Ashwath Yegyan Kumar and Sruthy Shah together ranked third with 93.6 percent.
Annette Augustus with 94.4 percent stood second in IISR while Inarat Aziz, Milu Elizabeth Cyriac and Rexy James shared third position with 94 percent.
E.K. Muhammad Shaffe, IISD Principal, said his school has maintained its academic excellence by producing 100 percent results for the 10th consecutive academic year.
Saudi Gazette was unable to get in touch with M.J. Siddiqui, IISR Principal, to ask him for his comments on the overall performance of his school.
Salah Karadan, MC Chairman IISJ, congratulated the students, who ranked top in the Kingdom.
“I would like to congratulate the students on securing high percentages in the 10th Standard result. The success in the CBSE result was due to the combined efforts by students, teachers and their parents along with the full support from the management committee. I am proud to say the overall topper is from IISJ,” he said.
