A company has been established to develop haphazard districts in Makkah. The exact task to be assigned to the company is under consideration, Dr. Osama Fadhl Al-Bar, Mayor of Makkah, and a member of the Central Haj Committee, said at a briefing here on Wednesday. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Khudairi, Undersecretary of Makkah Governorate, was also present during the briefing. The mayor said King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, is very keen to convert Makkah into the most modern city in the world. The development of the haphazard districts of the holy city is part of the King's vision, the mayor said. Another company has been set up specifically to install the railway track network within the holy city. Two major projects are underway: a railway line connecting the holy sites with Makkah worth SR7 billion and a massive project to connect Makkah and Madina. The first two stages of this massive project will cost more than SR7 billion, Al-Bar told Saudi Gazette.
