Police are investigating the details of a bus accident in which eight people – including three female teachers – were killed and 20 others injured on Tuesday. The driver of the ill-fated bus is being questioned, following accusations that he deliberately caused the accident. He escaped with only bruises. The families of the dead teachers and one other fatality held funerals on Wednesday. Five of the injured at Al-Laith General Hospital were discharged on Wednesday. The brother of one of eight persons who died in the accident spoke of their loss following the burial of their sister. Jowahir Roudeen was one of three women teachers who died in the accident. “She was appointed to work in Al-Qunfuda five years ago,” said the brother of Jowahir. “Although she was an English teacher, a qualification in great demand, she did not manage to get a transfer from the remote area where she worked, and not long ago her sister went to work at the same place to be with her. She too was injured in the accident.” Jowahir lived in an apartment with two colleagues, and after finishing work on Tuesday sought permission from the school to travel to see their families in Makkah after one of their brothers said that he would be unable to take them. The three were killed during the bus journey.
