A new committee began examining Sunday land title deeds issued by some notary publics to ensure that multiple deeds have not been issued for the same extensive plots of land. The committee was formed at the approval of the Minister of Justice, Muhammad Al-Issa, with the head Notary Public in Jeddah Osama Al-Mirdas as chairman and a number of experienced notary publics as members. The number of deeds targeted has not been specified, nor their type or location, but it is reported that they concern deeds for plots of large land areas. Al-Mirdas said the committee's work was a preventive procedure to reassure owners of old deeds and to protect public land.
