A severe dust storm that swept through Riyadh on Sunday caused 1,191 accidents in only three hours of blowing throughout the city as the visibility was cut to virtually zero, Riyadh Traffic Department said. There were no major accidents caused by the storm but drivers should be cautious about low visibility , said Lt. Sultan Bin Rubai'an. As a pall of massive yellow dust hanged over Wadi Addosar Road on Friday, seven people burned to death and three were seriously injured in a head-on collision of two vehicles caused by the low visibility, police said. Five members of the same family perished in the accident. In addition to accidents cases, emergency rooms received cases of asthma and allergy that was triggered by the dust storm. The dust storms are an annual feature but in recent years they have become more toxic because of increasing pollution in the Kingdom. – Okaz __
