A resident of Jizan has heeded recent calls to ease the conditions of marriage on Saudi youth and help address the problem of increasing spinsterhood in the Kingdom by marrying off his daughter for the sum of SR50. The man married his schoolteacher daughter to his 25-year-old nephew, imposing no further conditions on the union other than that the groom keeps to his prayers, memorizes the Qur'an, and treats his daughter well. “I would ask all guardians to avoid putting on our youth conditions they cannot meet,” the father of the bride said. His fatherless nephew, who is the sole provider for his mother and siblings, thanked his uncle for the gesture that took into account his meager salary. “It was a very kind and noble thing to do,” he said, promising to try and follow the advice his uncle had given him and be the best possible husband for his wife.
