Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz brought a serious slice of star power to the Cannes film festival Friday, flying in for the screening of “Precious,” about the struggles of a young black Harlem girl. Fresh in from the US stepping up the famed Cannes red-carpet Friday evening were Martin Scorsese, Jerry Lewis, Eva “Desperate Housewives” Longoria and basketballer Tony Parker - the latter pair shot by paparazzi exchanging a seaside kiss. Lewis, 83, was given a helping hand up the steps but jokingly said to reporters: “Why am I here? To get my car washed.” Earlier in the day, the hard-hitting US indie movie “Precious”, the tale of an obese teenager trying to escape a lifetime of abuse, won a standing ovation for its director Lee Daniels at the festival. Daniels was moved to tears by the enthusiastic welcome for his film, which picked up the Grand Jury prize at Sundance.
