The Saudi Electricity Company has said it will step in to help 60 Saudi employees whose employer, a local contracted company, has failed to pay their salaries for five months. The electricity company's head in the Western Region, Abdul Aziz Matouq Al-Saqqa, said he was unaware of the issue, but after hearing of the workers' plight he expressed his dismay at the delay in salary payments. “The company will be approached,” Al-Saqqa said, adding that the contracted company in question was being paid promptly for its work. Some of the employees, many of whom have worked at the company for four years, said they had taken on extra work as drivers, while others have resorted to borrowing money and even selling their wives' jewelry to get by. According to them they approached their employers about the issue only to receive “empty promises.”
