The Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) conference, organized by the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA), opened here on Monday with the participation of experts in the field of navigation service and representatives from 15 countries and from regional aviation companies. The two-day conference, which deals with the development of air traffic management (ATM) in the Middle East, is aimed at developing several navigational system services, such as, upgrading operations and air navigation services and safety management systems and increasing cooperation between the countries of the Middle East in the field of air navigation. “We hope to increase cooperation between countries in the Middle East and the other members of several international navigation organizations,” said Mohammed Bin Ahmad Al-Salemi, Assistant Director of GACA. According to Al-Salemi, such symposiums provide an opportunity for experts to share their technical experience. “This conference will increase the cooperation between GACA and aviation companies, as well as introduce services based on satellite navigation systems,” added Al-Salemi. The conference deals with different aspects of navigation services, such as, safety, airspace planning, new operational and technical initiatives, cooperation between service providers, and best practices to enhance ATM provision in the region.
