600 await deportation after Jeddah crackdown

More than 600 persons of various nationalities have been referred to authorities and await deportation after being rounded up beneath the Al-Kandarah overpass in the city late Saturday. A police spokesman said that the identities of the individuals would be verified and checked against criminal records before they are transported back to their home countries. The Al-Kandarah overpass is a popular gathering place for persons seeking return to their home countries after overstaying the time permitted by their visas.
