New earth tremors of 3.3 on the Richter Scale shook Madina villages in the region of Harrat Al-Shaqqah on Tuesday, as quake activity in the vicinity continues. The tremors and their accompanying noises have disturbed residents in the regions villages over the last week and the Saudi Geological Survey Authority (SGS), called in to investigate villagers' reports, said on Monday that they were due to subterranean volcanic activity in the area. The Education Administration, meanwhile, has been working with Civil Defense to draw up emergency plans to provide accommodation for residents in the villages of Al-Ais should the need arise. The plans also include measures to close schools and compensate pupils with extra class hours once the threat has passed. The Civil Defense chief in Yanbu made a tour of the area on Tuesday to reassure citizens that there was no imminent danger and make sure that all precautionary measures were in place.
