Sayegh, a resident of the up-scale Rawdah District in Jeddah, points at the messy inside wall of a mosque that has been closed down for some time for maintenance and renovation work. But the work has never been done. Al-Sayegh said the neglected house of worship has encouraged kids to turn its walls into a graffiti gallery and its backyard into a playground. Part of the backyard has become a dump site. An official at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said that the ministry maintains only the mosques that it builds, according to resident Fawaz Sha'aban who went to complain about the situation of the deserted mosque. This mosque was built by a philanthropist. – By Abdullah Al
