A tripartite committee comprising the Grants Administration in Makkah Mayoralty, Al-Shawqiyah branch municipality and the concerned engineering office has decided that 500 residential plots of land granted to the citizens five months ago in the New Waly Al-Ahd Planned District to the south of Makkah are unsuitable. The committee was formed after beneficiaries from the grants refused to receive them claiming that they were located on rugged mountainous areas. The technical committee's report said that the concerned land grants cannot be benefited from and are inaccessible. Meanwhile, the Makkah Mayoralty has promised to compensate those refusing to receive their plots with other suitable plots in the near future. Several Saudi nationals had refused to receive these grants which were found to be unsuitable for residential purposes after inspection. They asked the mayoralty to reconsider these locations and end their 20-year hardship. On receiving the citizens' complaints, the mayoralty decided to form a committee to look into their grievances. For his part, Dr. Osama Al-Bar, Makkah Mayor, said the mayoralty has begun looking into the report issued by the tripartite committee. He said the matter would be referred to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs together with a central mechanism and a list of all the citizens whose granted plots were in rugged areas. He promised to compensate them with alternative locations that are suitable for constructing houses.
