The mayoralty here awarded a SR2.5 million initial study project on the construction of a crossing between north and south Obhur to an American company after analyzing offers of 10 international companies. The winning company is to submit a number of detailed reports at the end of each stage of the study including field survey, hydraulic investigation, soil tests, and navigation permit, in addition to reports on traffic, environment, the water stream and the design of the crossing and whether a bridge or a tunnel is needed. The study, expected to be completed in three months, is aimed at the feasibility of the Obhur crossing project with the city's current and future situations taken into account. Ibrahim Kutubkhana, deputy mayor for construction and projects, said land in north and south Obhur would be acquired for the project, which he said, will play a major role in the integration between the main road networks – most importantly Al-Madina and King Abdul Aziz roads. The mayoralty allocated SR350 million for the project's execution that will link northern Jeddah to northern Obhur.
