Two men who ripped out a security camera in preparation for robbing an ATM in Rabegh were spotted instead by a passerby, leading to a dramatic car chase with police on Wednesday night. The vigilant bystander noted the pair's suspicious behavior at the bank facility and informed the police, prompting desperate efforts by the men to escape and reinforcement to be called in by authorities. The pursuit led to wooded areas on the outskirts of Rabegh town where one of the men fled from the vehicle and disappeared among the trees. His companion was caught. The detained man told police that his companion was a Yemeni man he had met recently, and that he had no knowledge of his name or address. Police set up checkpoints around the zone, and after more than 12 hours a vehicle finally arrived containing three men. The driver informed police that one of his passengers was a suspicious individual he had picked up on the way. It was confirmed soon after that the individual was the Yemeni man the police were seeking. The chief of police in Rabegh praised the public's “sense of responsibility for security.” “The person who informed us of the robbery and the driver who told us of his suspicious passenger were crucial in helping us detain the thieves,” he said.
