Saudi teams stole the show on the second day of the 12th Gulf Athletics Championship and the 5th Gulf Athletics Championship for Juniors in Qatif, Thursday. Saudi athletes toped the table with 18 medals – eight gold, four silver and six bronze. The Saudi Junior team also added four more medals to the team's tally to end the day at 11 – two gold, five silver and four bonze. Earlier on Wednesday, the Undersecretary of the Governorate of the Eastern Region Zareb Al-Qahtani patronized the opening ceremony of the championship in the presence of Prince Nawaf Bin Mohammed, President of the Saudi Federation for Athletics. On Thursday, Ali Shirok of the UAE clinched the first gold medal of the day when he won the 400m in 49.66sec. Saudis Bandr Sharahili and Idress Hawsawi were second and third. In 800m, Kuwaiti Mohammed Al-Azmi overcame his Qatari competitor Thamer Kamal to win the race in a time of 1.51.66sec. Saudi Wael Al-Jalass finished third. Saud Al-Dawdi clinched the discuss gold medal with a throw of 64m. Qatar's Ahmed Deeb was second (59m) while the bronze was won by Saudi Sultan Al-Hibshi. Saudi relay team continued to dominate the 4x400m event at the GCC level by winning the gold again. Oman took the silver while the bonze medal was clinched by Kuwaiti teams. __
