Yankees end 4-game losing streak

Phil Hughes went six innings in his first start and left fielder Josh Anderson's error led to a 10-run seventh inning as the New York Yankees ended a four-game losing streak with an 11-0 victory thrashing of the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Hughes (1-0), who was called up from minor league AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Edwin Jackson dueled through six innings. Hughes, who replaced the injured Wang Chien-ming in the rotation, allowed two hits, while Jackson gave up four.
Nick Swisher led off the seventh against Ryan Perry (0-1) with a single and Melky Cabrera walked. After a sacrifice, pinch-hitter Jorge Posada lifted what looked like a routine fly ball to left but Anderson missed the ball for a two-base, two-run error that started the big inning.
Indians 9, Red Sox 8: At Cleveland, Mark DeRosa had four hits and scored from second base on an error with two outs in the ninth inning as Cleveland beat Boston to snap an 11-game winning streak.
The Indians won for only the second time in their last 11 games against the Red Sox.
Kerry Wood (1-1), worked a shaky ninth to earn his first AL win. He gave up two singles, but got Jacoby Ellsbury to line out to end the threat.
DeRosa, who entered the game in a 2-for-22 slump, began the ninth with a bloop single off Javier Lopez (0-2). After a sacrifice and a strikeout, first baseman Kevin Youkilis made a backhanded stop of Asdrubal Cabrera's grounder and flipped to Lopez, who dropped it as he got to first base.
White Sox 2, Mariners 1, Game 1: Mariners 9, White Sox 1, Game 2: At Chicago, Yuniesky Betancourt drove in five runs and Russell Branyan had a career-high five hits as Seattle salvaged a doubleheader split with Chicago.
In other games it was: Angels 7, Orioles 5; Rangers 5, Athletics 4; Twins 4, Rays 3; Blue Jays 8, Royals 1.
Phillies win 5th straight
Chase Utley homered twice and drove in three runs and Pedro Feliz added a three-run shot as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 7-1 for their fifth straight National League victory on Tuesday.
Raul Ibanez also went deep for the Phillies, who won despite losing ace Cole Hamels early for the second consecutive start. Hamels came out in the fifth inning after spraining his left ankle trying to field John Lannan's bunt. Making his fourth start, Hamels appeared to be on his way to his first win. He allowed four hits and struck out four in 4 1-3 innings, leaving with a 5-0 lead.
Marlins 7, Mets 4: At New York, Jorge Cantu homered twice and drove in five runs and Florida ended one of the wilder rides in Major League Baseball history, beating New York to snap a seven-game losing streak.
The Marlins' skid started immediately after they'd won seven in a row. Cantu hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, then lined a tiebreaking, three-run drive in the seventh.
Florida won minus All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who was hit by a pitch in the right hand the previous night.
The Mets were missing first baseman Carlos Delgado and second baseman Luis Castillo, both nursing recent injuries.
Braves 2, Cardinals 1: At Atlanta, Matt Diaz drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single off Kyle McClellan in the eighth inning, rallying Atlanta to a win over St. Louis.
In other games it was: Astros 8, Reds 3 ; Brewers 6, Pirates 5; Padres 4, Rockies 3; Cubs 11, Diamondbacks 3; Dodgers 5, Giants 3.
