A Saudi man has lodged a complaint with governorate authorities in Zulfi accusing the traffic police of illegally transferring the ownership of his son's car to an unknown person. Nuwaifi Al-Mutairi says he sold his car for SR75,000 with the buyer agreeing to pay SR40,000 in cash and the remainder by a check to be cashed the following week. Ownership documents for the vehicle were given over to the purchaser. “He disappeared and didn't pay me the rest,” Al-Mutairi said. “I reported the incident to the police to get them to impound the car, and the Zulfi traffic police director asked me to sign a document of sale and told me he would transfer the ownership whether I agreed or not.” “My son's car is now registered under someone else's name.” The director of traffic police said the transfer was legal and in accordance with regulations. Traffic Police director Zaid Bin Muhammad Al-Nasir said the procedures were legal. “We were ordered by the governor to solve the issue that concerned the traffic police, and we passed the financial side of the matter over to the police,” Al-Nasir said. Al-Nasir added that the police approached the traffic police a week later saying Al-Mutairi had gone to them to complete complaint procedures.
