The Court of Cassation in Makkah has overruled the verdict sentencing a man to dig graves given previously by a court judge in Al-Muweih. The man, accused of shooting his maternal uncle, was ordered to dig ten graves in exchange for reducing his sentence of eight months in prison to seven. The Court of Cassation upheld the eight-month imprisonment ruling and another sentencing the accused to 400 lashes. Judge Mohammed Aal Abdul Karim who issued the original grave-digging ruling which was accompanied with a number of stipulations including the specific depth of each grave, is according to sources well-known for his “alternative sentences”.
