Thirteen employees of the Jeddah Mayoralty are in the dock over an investigation into the faulty design of a costly overpass at a major traffic junction in Jeddah. The employees, of grades 9-12, were sent to the Court of Grievances after being investigated by the Commission of Investigation and Prosecution. The bungling in the design of the overpass crossing Palestine Street and Siteen Street has led to a huge waste of public money. The budget of the partially completed project is insufficient to correct the fault in the design. The investigators found that the employees awarded the design project to a certain engineering firm that had not been approved for the bid. The company executing the construction work had submitted many designs but they were all rejected.
