The Saudi embassy here is looking into the possibility of transferring a Saudi student detained in Halifax, Canada, for assaulting his neighbor, a Japanese student, to a psychiatric hospital in Riyadh. The repatriation is subject to the approval of the Canadian authorities. Muhammad Al-Battah, a senior official said, the embassy has received the hospital's approval in this regard. The student was transferred from the prison's medical unit to a hospital for examination and treatment under the supervision of two doctors. In case the medical team at the hospital confirms the student has a psychological disorder he would be released for being unaccountable for his actions. If he was charged with the assault, he would be expected to be sentenced to 8 months in jail. The next date of hearing in the case is June 30.
