Rajhi Alliance which won the first construction contract on the Haramain high-speed rail project between Makkah and Madina through Jeddah has started executing the civil works of the 450-km long project. Abdullah Al-Muqbil, Deputy Transportation Minister for Road Affairs, explained that the train project that links Jeddah Islamic Seaport and King Abdul Aziz Seaport in Dammam which will transport transit containers is being studied and the second phase of the project will be transporting civilians between the same cities. He also explained that the railway starting from the non-Muslims road in Shemaisi to Jizan will be finished within a year. The project will link many cities like Ja'ezah, Mekhwah and Mahail Asir. The road will be parallel to that which links Laith, Gunfudah and Jizan. Al-Muqbil added that the Ministry is now executing more than 30,000-km of road projects with a total cost of SR26 billion. He said that the ministry is also executing a number of ring roads in Jeddah, Taif, Makkah and Madina.
