US ties have been based on respect and common interests since the era of the late founder King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdulrahman and former US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, said Prince Turki Al-Faisal, President of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. Delivering a lecture titled “What we expect from the United States of America – a Saudi view” organized by Cornell University here on Thursday, Prince Turki stressed the depth and strength of bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States, based on respect and common interests. He reviewed the various stages of bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting the significant role being played by Saudi Arabia in regional and international arenas and within the framework of the Arab and Muslim World. He also commended the significant role being played by the United States at the international level and its efforts to deal with regional and international issues of common concern to Saudi Arabia and the international community. Earlier, Prince Turki toured Cornell University and expressed his admiration for the university's colleges, centers and the areas of study and research carried out by the university, particularly the center for joint studies between King Abdullah University for Science and Technology and Cornell University, which has been funded by a grant from King Abdullah University for the study of energy research, nanotechnology, and sustainable development. Prince Turki held a meeting with Cornell University president Dr. David Skorton and discussed ways of cooperation between the university and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies and other Saudi universities and centers in technical and scientific research. Prince Turki also graced a dinner party held by the university.
