Informed sources have revealed that 2,000 lawsuits have been lodged by members of the public with the Board of Grievances in Makkah against ministries and government bodies, among them the ministries of Transportation and Water and Electricity, the Civil Aviation Authority and the mayoralties in Makkah and Jeddah. Most of the cases, the sources say, concern compensation sought for buildings and land expropriated by the ministries for public works, and appeals against compensation rulings which were considered unjust. According to the sources 39 percent of the cases have been resolved. Judgments from the Board of Grievances are not final and can be revoked by the High Court. Government bodies appeal 95 percent of preliminary judgments passed by the Board of Grievances.
