An expectant father whose wife was reportedly refused help by staff while she sat in the Children's and Maternity Hospital in the throes of labor decided to call the police to resolve the situation. Abdul Rahman Al-Amri said that his wife was registered at the Maternity Hospital and so rushed her there at the first sign of labor pains. When they arrived, however, they were told by staff that there were no beds available. “I called emergencies on the phone and they put me through to Health Affairs who ordered the hospital to immediately provide my wife with a bed,” Al-Amri said. Despite the orders from above, nothing happened, and Al-Amri's wife remained waiting in emergencies. “So I called the police, and they sent three patrol cars and an officer intervened until hospital staff said they would admit my wife,” Al-Amri said.
