Anoud Bint Abdullah, wife of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, inaugurated the first Gulf women's exhibition at Al-Harithi exhibition center here on Wednesday. About 2,000 people from all walks of life were in attendance at the inauguration of the six-day event which is being organized by Al-Iman Charitable Services Society and Cancer Patients' Care. “The aim of holding this exhibition is to enlighten women about improving their abilities and to educate them about economic, social and cultural issues in the Gulf countries,” said Jawhara Al Angari, head of Al-Iman Society. The exhibition showcases different products and small businesses of home-based Saudi women. “It's a great opportunity to participate in such an event with people from all over the Gulf,” said Lamya Hussain, owner of a small business house participating in the exhibition. The main aim of the exhibition is to make Saudi women aware of health and education issues. “Other than the basic information on these subjects, we will help Saudi women assume social responsibility and this exhibition is one of the most important keys to that door,” said Al Angari. Several workshops are also planned alongside the exhibition, such as, positive thinking workshop, experiences from Gulf countries like Kuwait and UAE as well as recounting the experiences of young Saudi businessmen. An open discussion on women's rights in Gulf countries is also in the cards. “We are looking forward to having a similar event in the future because it will help in giving proper exposure to small businesses not only in Saudi Arabia but in other Gulf countries,” said Awatif Al-Gahmdi a businesswoman participating in the exhibition.
