Junior karate artists in Jeddah are gearing up for the 18th KOI World Cup to be held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from July 19 to 27. With the aim of getting accustomed to the World Karate Federation (WKF) rules of competitions a training camp for karate artists, coaches, judges and referee, prior to the final kata and kumite competitions, are being conducted by Sensei Gerry de Jesus Renta Jr, who is also the KOI official representative here, at the Al-Fala Sports club. He is also an official of the Philippine national karate-do and chairman of the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) for the Middle East. PKF Middle East is duly recognized by the Philippine Consulate, a member of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), Asian Karatedo Federation (AKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF). PKF Middle East has chalked out a number of events for the martial arts enthusiasts in Jeddah. They are: PKF Open Invitational Karate Tournament, July 9- 10; 2nd PKF Multi-Cultural Karate Championships 2009, Dec. 3-4. Shihan Tommy Morris, President of KOI and Chairman of Referee Council of the World Karate Federation (WKF), Shihan Tommy Morris, said that the KOI world training camp and seminars are routinely held prior to the KOI World Cup to impart knowledge and upgrade the skills of all our members.
