The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) will convene in Riyadh on April 26-29 the 2nd Occupational and Health Conference to raise national awareness on occupational health and safety, and highlight the local need to increase international cooperation. This was announced by Soliman S. Al-Humayyed, GOSI Governor, here on Saturday. “Due to the importance of occupational health and safety in different workplaces, and the need of several organizations and institutions to apply these, the conference is being held to coincide with the observance of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, an international campaign to promote safe, healthy, and decent work,” Humayyed said. The venue of the conference, along with an exhibition, is at Prince Sultan Hall at Al-Faisaliah Hotel, Riyadh. The events are being held in cooperation with King Faisal University. “We need to raise the awareness of occupational health and safety requirements and to support the efforts of the state to reduce occupational injuries. Neglecting the requirements of occupational health and safety by establishments would eventually lead to work injuries and occupational diseases which have health, social and economic effects on the worker, his family and society as a whole,” the GOSI Governor said.
