About 8,500 out of 12,000 regular smokers who sought the help of Nqa, the anti-smoking society here, kicked the habit last year, Sulaiman Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Sabi, secretary general of the society, revealed on Friday. He said Nqa is working on an international project to make Riyadh a smoking-free city. It will launch an intensive awareness campaign to enlighten the public about the dangers of smoking. Al-Sabi said Nqa will hold the first anti-smoking forum in Riyadh on April 20 noting that participants from within and outside the Kingdom will focus on the experiences of their countries in fighting this menace so that the Kingdom may benefit from them. He said Nqa is planning to organize this forum annually pointing out that the society is mainly targeting young people in all stages of general education and universities who constitute the largest segment of smokers in the Kingdom.
