The Asir Health Department has opened an investigation into the complaint of a man who claimed that his one-year-old daughter was mistreated and fell into a coma at Khamis Mushayt General Hospital in late March. Yahya Daghriri, father of Rawasn, said that he brought his daughter to the hospital after she had fallen in the house, fracturing her collar bone. She was hospitalized for one day based on her physician's decision, the father said. But her case deteriorated. However, while in the hospital, she was given an intravenous vitamin injection in the wrong place which eventually contaminated her blood and put her into a coma, he said. Six days later, she was transferred to the Children's Hospital in Khamis Mushayt. But her case deteriorated further, and she was again transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Asir General Hospital. The father was not notified, he said. “If you look at her now in the ICU, she looks like a dead body,” he said. “How can the simple treatment of a collar bone result in her being admitted to the ICU,” he asked. The report of the Khamis Mushayt General Hospital said that Rawasn suffered from difficulty in breathing, accelerated heart beat, and high temperature due to an infection in a heart muscle and the bacterial contamination of blood components. The report added that she was give a large quantity of antibiotics.
