Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co (Kayan) made $1.68 million non-operational losses for the first quarter 2009 comparing to $25.5 million for the same period last year, the company announced in a statement. The company also said that it has completed 93.9 percent of its engineering and construction works during the first quarter 2009, with an average completion of engineering, supply and construction works at 70.9 percent. The project located in Jubail Industrial City, is expected to go on-stream in the fourth quarter of 2010 with a total annual capacity of approximately six million tons per annum. The facility will produce a variety of petrochemical products including ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene and ethylene glycol. A series of specialized products will also be produced locally for the first time such as aminoethanols, aminomethyls, dimethylformamide, dimethylethanol, dimethylethanolamine, ethoxylates, and polycarbonate and acetone.
