A Yemeni was beheaded by the sword for garroting a compatriot with a length of wire in a dispute over money, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday. Fikri Mohammed Hassan Saleh was executed in the southwestern town of Jizan for killing a fellow Yemeni, identified only as Najib, the ministry said in a statement. It said Saleh was under the influence of alcohol when he strangled the victim to death. Under Saudi Arabia's Shariah system of Islamic justice, the death penalty can be applied to crimes of rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking.
