The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has recently concluded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cambridge University for launching the bank's program entitled “international university of cambridge for scholarships.” The signing ceremony at the university in London was attended by Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali, President of the IDB, and Prof. Alison Richard, Vice Chancellor of the university. The launch of the joint program came within the IDB's scheme of granting scholarships to distinguished and talented students from Islamic communities in the field of science and high technology to prepare researches for doctorates. This joint program with Cambridge University, which is ranked second in the world in research and higher education, will significantly enhance the IDB's efforts to contribute to the human resources development of its needy member countries. “This partnership with an outstanding institution of knowledge will help educate future leaders in developing countries while at the same time developing science-based human resources in Third World countries,” said Dr. Ali. He added that the IDB-Cambridge partnership will also grow in other areas of education and human development. He hoped that the two organizations would work together to create a prosperous global village. Professor Richard called the launching of the joint program a new dimension of university activities intended to reach out to emerging and developing countries.
