Chicago gains from Oilers' win
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 12 - 04 - 2009

The Edmonton Oilers beat the Calgary Flames 5-1 on Friday to deliver the No. 4 seed in the NHL's Western Conference playoffs to Chicago.
Shawn Horcoff and Sheldon Souray each had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday. The Flames are two points behind Vancouver for the Northwest Division lead. Calgary played the game with only 15 skaters because of a recent series of injuries.
Blues 3, Blue Jackets 1: In St. Louis, the hosts clinched their first playoff berth in four seasons by downing Columbus.
Keith Tkachuk scored twice for the first time since opening night and added an assist. The 37-year-old, by far the oldest of the Blues, enjoyed a season-best three-point night and has three goals and four assists in the past three games. The Blues scored power-play goals on two of their first three shots for a fast start against Columbus, who were no doubt flat two days after making it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Andy Murray won his 100th game in 2-1/2 seasons as Blues coach, guiding a team that has been the NHL's best in the second half of the season.
Wild 8, Predators 4: In St. Paul, Minnesota, Minnesota set a season high for goals to top Nashville, as both teams were eliminated from playoff contention. Both teams learnt their non-playoff fate soon after the end of the game due to the other results Friday. Marc-Andre Bergeron scored twice to lead the scoring for the Wild.
Ducks 4, Stars 3, SO: In Anaheim, California, Anaheim edged Dallas in a shootout to wrap up a playoff spot. Jonas Hiller made 42 saves and Teemu Selanne scored the shootout decider. Even before the shootout, the Ducks clinched the Western Conference playoff spot by securing a single point through the end of regulation time.
Dallas is out of the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
