Miguel Cabrera hit a grand slam and matched his career high with six RBIs as the Detroit Tigers crushed Texas 15-2 on Friday, bringing the Rangers' perfect start to the new season to an abrupt halt. Texas had started 3-0 for the first time in 13 years and led the majors in runs before the Tigers roughed up pitcher Kris Benson in his return to the majors. Benson allowed seven earned runs in five innings, in his first game since 2006. Orioles 5, Rays 4: In Baltimore, the home team ended a run of 12 straight losses to Tampa Bay. Melvin Mora drove in three runs to lead the way for the Orioles, who got 11 hits and continued their bright start to the new campaign. Pitcher Mark Hendrickson won in his Baltimore debut, giving up only one run in 5-1/3 innings. Hendrickson, who was signed as a free agent, used to pitch for the Rays. Mariners 5, Athletics 4: In Oakland, California, Seattle's five-run second inning was enough to edge Oakland. Endy Chavez had three hits and two RBIs for the Mariners, who won in Oakland for the first time in five games. Yankees 4, Royals 1: In Kansas City, Missouri, New York spoiled the opening of a renovated Kauffman Stadium. Twins 12, White Sox 5: In Chicago, Minnesota comfortably beat Chicago in their first meeting since the White Sox won last year's tiebreaker for the AL Central title. Other results: Blue Jays 13, Indians 7; Angels 6, Red Sox 3. Marlins edge Mets Jorge Cantu singled with two outs in the ninth to give the unbeaten Florida Marlins a 5-4 win over the New York Mets in the National League on Friday. The Mets were left to rue leaving 14 runners on base, stranding at least one in every inning. In the embryonic stages of the new season, Florida is the only unbeaten team in the majors, and moved to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history. Padres 7, Giants 3: In San Diego, Scott Hairston hit a three-run homer to power San Diego to victory over San Francisco. Brian Giles drove in two runs for the Padres, who punished Giants pitcher Barry Zito early in a rare, rain-delayed game in San Diego. It's the first time the Padres have been above .500 since last April. Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 4: In Phoenix, Chris Young went 3-for-3 with a home run as Arizona downed Los Angeles. Cardinals 5, Astros 3: In St. Louis, Ryan Ludwick homered and drove in two runs as St. Louis survived another shaky ninth inning to beat Houston. Ludwick finished 2-for-3 and extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games, including the last 11 of 2008. Brewers 4, Cubs 3: In Milwaukee, the home team got two runs in the ninth inning to pip Chicago. Ryan Braun's grounder to shortstop scored Rickie Weeks on a close play at the plate to clinch victory. Other results: Rockies 10, Phillies 3; Braves 6, Nationals 5, 10 innings.
