The British Consulate General in Jeddah is holding a ceremony on April 22 to mark the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. Some 350 people are expected to attend the two-hour ceremony, said British Consul General Kate Rudd in a press conference on Tuesday evening. “We are looking forward to renewing our relationship with many of our old Saudi friends, and look forward to making many new ones,” said Rudd. “(We) will be continuing to strengthen the already strong relationship between the two Kingdoms.” Rudd said that two trade delegations from the UK to Saudi Arabia meet every month, adding that British trade missions find the Saudi business environment very encouraging. Tuesday's celebration will be of a cultural nature. There will be several visual presentations, including one about two brand new cars from the UK. Several British brands and designs will be showcased at the Consulate General's premises. “We live in a world of increased connections and interdependence through travel, trade and communicationm” said Rudd. “What happens in one part of the world – whether political, economic or social – directly affects the people and the way they live their daily lives.” She said visas to the UK can be granted for periods of up to 10 years, depending on what kind of visa the applicant requests. Also, the British Council will be displaying their English language services. Representatives of the Saudi Arabian British Bank (SABB) are also expected to attend. __
