The Eastern Province Mayoralty is to begin soon tests on food products at markets and restaurants using mobile laboratories that give instant results. Dr. Khalifa Al-Saad, Director of Environmental Health at the mayoralty, said that the laboratories are currently being equipped and staff trained to operate them, and that they would target all food outlets including shops and restaurants, and vegetable, fruit and meat markets. “We aim to guarantee the safety of all members of society, prevent breaches of regulations, and create a hygienic working environment at all food locations,” Al-Saad said. “The laboratories will be able to test samples right in front of the shop and get instant results. Violations will be referred to the relevant authorities.
